What Minu does
Minu is a parental control app. Parents use it to manage how long their children use their phones and tablets, with a daily time limit, off-limits hours and tasks that earn extra time. Minu counts how long a child's device is used. If a parent turns it on, it also shows which apps were used and for how long. Minu never reads what happens inside apps: no websites, videos, messages or anything typed.
Minu is installed and managed by a parent. On the child's device, Minu explains in simple words what it does and what the parent can see ("What's happening on this device?").

Information we store
| Information | From | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address of the parent's Google account | Parent | Sign-in, and telling the parents in a family apart |
| Family name | Parent | Shown in the app |
| Child's first name (typed by the parent) and the child's rules | Parent | Applying the daily time and schedule |
| A one-way, salted hash of each child's and parent's PIN (the PIN itself is never stored) | Parent | Telling children apart on a shared tablet; giving time without internet; showing who added time |
| Daily usage time; records of time added, penalties and completed tasks | Child device / parent | Remaining time and history |
| Task requests ("Done") | Child device | Parent approval |
| Task photo (only if the parent asked for photo proof for that task; the child takes it) | Child device | Letting the parent see the task was done. Only parents see it; deleted right away on rejection, kept under "Finished tasks" after approval. A parent can delete it at any time; it is deleted automatically after 7 days at the latest. Location and other photo details are removed. |
| Profile picture (optional): a ready-made picture, or a photo a parent picks or takes | Parent (photo); parent or child device (ready-made picture) | Recognizing the child in the app. The photo is cropped on the phone and reduced to 512 pixels; location and other details are removed; a camera photo is not saved to the gallery. Only the family sees it. |
| App times: app name, package name and daily minutes (only if a parent turned this on for that child; off by default) | Child device | Showing the parent which apps were used and for how long. Kept for 30 days; all deleted when turned off. The child's screen shows when it is on. |
| Blocked apps: name, package name and end time of apps a parent blocked | Parent | Making the child device keep those apps closed. Removed when the parent lifts the block or it expires. Shown on the child's screen. |
| Download alerts: name and package name of a newly downloaded app (only if a parent turned this on; off by default) | Child device | Alerting the parent; parents can delete alerts at any time. The child's screen shows when it is on. |
| Device model, last check-in time and whether the needed permissions are on | Child device | Showing the parent that time tracking works |
| Alerts (time is up, a permission was turned off, a PIN was used, someone tried to remove the app) | Child device / server | Informing the parent |
| Notification address and language of the parent's phone | Parent device | Instant notifications in the phone's language |
| Premium: subscription end date, the Google Play purchase number, gift periods and the family's friend code | Google Play / server | Knowing whether Premium is active for the family. Payment details (card number etc.) are handled by Google and never reach us. |
| Feedback (only if a parent sends it from Settings → "Send feedback"): the text, its topic, app version, phone model and language; the email address only if the parent ticks the box | Parent | Improving the app and replying if asked. Read only by the Minu team; no information about children is sent. Deleted after 1 year or when the account is deleted |
Information we never collect
- What happens inside apps (websites visited, videos watched, things typed).
- The list of apps on the device; which apps are used while app times are off.
- Messages, gallery photos, location, browsing history, contacts. The microphone is never used. The camera only opens through the phone's own camera app when the child takes a task photo or a parent takes a profile photo; Minu has no camera permission and no access to the gallery.
- Advertising ID. There are no ads and no usage analytics in Minu.
On the child's device, Android's Usage Access is used only to know when the screen is in use and whether the app in front is exempt (phone, messages, maps). "Display over other apps" is used to show the lock screen. Device Admin is used only to alert parents if someone tries to remove Minu; no other admin power is used.
Where data is kept and who sees it
- Data is stored with Google Firebase (sign-in, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging) in Frankfurt, Germany (europe-west3). Data is encrypted in transit.
- Only the parents of the same family can see the family's data. A child's device only sees that child's time, tasks and rules.
- We do not sell data, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with anyone except the hosting service above.
Children
Minu is designed for parents. Children do not create accounts; a parent sets up the app and types the child's first name. Information about a child is collected only under the parent's control, can be reviewed in the app by the parent at any time, and can be deleted by the parent (see below). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and children's information is never used for advertising. Parents in the United States can exercise their rights under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by contacting us at artovia.labs@gmail.com.
How long we keep data, and deleting it
Data is kept until a parent deletes it. In the app:
- Delete a child: open the child → Rules → "Delete child". History, remaining time, requests and alerts are deleted; devices linked only to that child are removed from the family.
- Remove a device: open the child → Devices → "Change" → "Remove device from family".
- Delete your account: Settings → "Delete my account and data". If you are the only parent, the family and everything in it is deleted; otherwise only you leave the family.
If you can't use the app, you can request deletion here: Delete your account. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription; cancel it in Google Play.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by writing to artovia.labs@gmail.com. We will answer within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will announce it in the app and on this page.
